Q&A with The Brunette Salad

There’s no denying that Toronto has some pretty stylish citizens. Which is why I wanted to profile one of the best dressed ladies I know on the blog! Meet Vanessa of The Brunette Salad. She’s a public relations student and blogger with a killer fashion sense and legs for days! She was kind enough to answer some questions for me on her style. Click through to read the whole Q&A!

Can you describe your sense of style?

I’d say my style is currently evolving and changing, but the thing that remains constant is my love for black.  I love edginess, I love the whole Givenchy/Alexander Wang aesthetic.  You won’t catch me in anything pink and frilly, ever.

What are the biggest influences on your style?

I tend to gravitate to things I think are cool and different but still relevant with current trends.  And if I see one of my favourite bloggers wearing a piece really well, I instantly fall in love with it and want to add it to my wardrobe.

Do you have a favourite designer?

I’d say it’s a cross between Ricardo Tisci and Alexander Wang.

What are some of your favourite places to shop? Do you have any local Toronto favourites?

I love Zara for keeping up with the latest trends and being good quality yet affordable.  H&M and Topshop are also favourites.  Online, Yoox is an absolute hidden gem for designer sales, and I love Ebay for random accessories like sunglasses and stuff.

What are some of your favourite fashion blogs?

I’m obsessed with Vanessa Hong of the Haute Pursuit.  Her style is ridiculous. I also regularly follow Aimee Song of Song of Style, Leandra Medine of Man Repeller, and Chiara Ferragni of the Blonde Salad (obviously!).

What items in your closet do you get the most mileage out of?

The black items, ha.

If you could have dinner with anyone in the fashion industry (living or dead) who would you choose and why?

Can I pick a living and a dead? Anna Wintour alive, because well, she is God.  I would love to hear her life story from her own mouth and ask her some questions.  And deceased, Alexander McQueen, because I really believe he was one of the greatest designer talents ever. It would be amazing to have a conversation with him and pick his brain.

What Spring 2013 trend are you dying to try?

Thin-platform heels! I’m getting sick of the super-high platform silhouette.  The ankle strap/thin-platform heels just look so fresh and cool to me.  I’m stocking up as we speak.

What trend do you wish would just end already?

Hate to say it, but skulls and spikes!  I loved them at one time.  Now they are terribly, terribly overused.

You’re studying public relations. What would you like to do once you’re finished school?

I want to be Oscar PR girl!  Basically, I would die to work for a huge fashion house or a fashion magazine.
